COLUMBIA — The Missouri softball team started off in the inaugural Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. with a 2-0 win over the Wichita State Shockers in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.
Senior Jen Bruck started things off for the Tigers, scoring in the first inning off of a dropped fly ball by Shocker right fielder Kiersten Dixon.
Another Wichita State error contributed to MU’s second score in the sixth inning. Freshman right fielder Kathryn Poet made it home off of a throwing error by pitcher Ashly Bright.
MU junior pitcher Stacy Delaney forced 10 groundouts, six fly outs, and threw six strikeouts during her complete game.
MU’s second game against Washington was cancelled after two innings of play due to rain. No makeup date has been released. The Tigers were down 2-0 when the game was called.
Saturday, the Tigers play Texas Tech in a matchup that will not count towards either school’s conference record. The opening pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
