COLUMBIA — Missouri track athletes new and old put on record-breaking performances Friday at the Central Missouri Classic in Warrensburg.

MU junior Chris Rohr threw for a school record 73 feet, 1/2 inches, or 22.26 meters, in the weight throw, taking down the previous record of 72 feet 3 3/4 inches, or 22.04 meters, set by Christian Cantwell in 2002. The mark also puts Rohr atop the national indoor leaderboard.

Cantwell competed in the meet as well and gave a record performance as well, becoming the first athlete to ever put all six throws in the shot put over 70 feet in an indoor competition. Cantwell’s best mark, 72 feet 9 1/4 inches, added to his personal best set in 2004 and placed him fifth in the World all-time in the event.

Following Rohr’s record breaking toss, Cantwell offered his congratulations.

“He said, ‘Congrats, it’s ‘bout time,’” Rohr said in a news release.

The Tigers will return home to Columbia to host the Missouri All Comers meet on Saturday in the Hearnes Fieldhouse. Cantwell will travel to Boston for the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships on Sunday.
