Sparky's opens for the season

Sparky's, a homemade ice cream store on Ninth Street in Columbia, opened its doors for the first day of ice cream season Monday.

Placed on the sidewalk along with its metal water container with water in it, the statue of Sparky, an 11-year-old bulldog that inspired the name of the homemade ice cream store, looks so realistic that sometimes passersby react to it.
