COLUMBIA — Eight people were arrested after a fight broke out in Hickman High School’s main office Tuesday morning.
Those arrested included students from Douglass and Hickman high schools and adults who do not attend either, said Columbia police Sgt. Eric White.
Lynn Barnett, assistant superintendent of Columbia Public Schools, said the altercation stemmed from an argument on Monday at the Dairy Queen across the street from the high school.
“It carried over into the school and a fight broke out (Tuesday),” Barnett said.
Three adults and four juveniles were arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace. Another juvenile was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault for hitting a school administrator. One of the adults, who doesn’t go to either school, was stunned with a Taser and taken into custody.
Police have named three of those arrested so far: John Wise, 17, of 2808 Mulberry Road Apt. B; Anthony Robinson, 18, of 202 Mohawk Ave.; and Donald Coleman, 18, of 103 E. Forest Ave.
Barnett said school administrators got involved when they took the teenagers into the main office to interview them shortly before the fist fight occurred about 11:45 a.m. She said that she did not know what was said in the Dairy Queen across the street from the high school. There were no reported injuries to any of the staff, police officers or suspects involved, White said.
