COLUMBIA — Sunlight streamed through large window panes, illuminating a handful of customers who sipped coffee and traded stories at the new Uprise Bakery. On Sunday, the Uprise left its location on Broadway and moved in with the new Ragtag CinemaCafe at 10 Hitt St.
“The thing we are all most excited about is the windows,” said Suzy Kympton, who has worked the counters of Uprise for nearly two-and-a-half years. Kympton said the stairwell leading to the bakery’s old basement digs blocked out light to the point it made it hard to tell the time of day.
Uprise customer Tomás Custer shared that opinion. “There are a lot of improvements, but the single nicest upgrade is the natural light — that, and being able to get a beer at lunch,” he said with a glance toward the adjoining bar in Ragtag.
