'Cosmic Conversation' looks to the stars

COLUMBIA ­— Adrian Corman, an MU graduate student in physics and astronomy, will host the fifth astronomy lecture in the “Cosmic Conversations” series Wednesday night.

Corman’s talk is titled “The Lives and Deaths of Stars” and will start at 7 p.m. in Room 120 of MU’s Physics Building. After every conversation, the fifth-floor Laws Observatory will be open for night sky viewing, if weather permits. The series is open to the public.

According to the MU News Bureau, assistant professor of astrophysics Angela Speck created the lecture series to “educate listeners about the cosmos through a variety of topics.” Speck led the introductory lecture, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Moon but Were Afraid to Ask,” in October.

The next lecture, “It Came From Outer Space: Recent controversies regarding the K/T boundary,” will take place on April 2.

The series is hosted the first Wednesday of every month by MU’s department of physics and astronomy along with the Laws Observatory and Central Missouri Astronomical Association. Upcoming lectures include astronomy and religion, nuclear processes in the cosmos, and night photography.
