COLUMBIA — Missouri wrestlers Tyler McCormick and Max Askren were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference first team Tuesday.

McCormick, a senior business administration major, was one of only two Big 12 wrestlers to earn a 4.00 grade-point average and received the first-team honor for the fourth time. Askren, a sophomore general studies major, was named to the first team for the second time.

This is the eighth straight season the Missouri wrestling program has had a student athlete named to the Academic All-Big 12 team. Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Missouri were the only teams in the Big 12 to place multiple athletes on the first team this year. OSU led the conference with nine selections.

The MU wrestling team will compete in the Big 12 Championship on March 8 in Stillwater, Okla., and for the first time, live video coverage of the competition will be available on the Big 12 Conference’s Web site, www.big12sports.com.

Preliminaries coverage will feature streaming video from both mats simultaneously. Finals coverage will be handled by Fox Sports Net, who will also broadcast the competition on tape delay the following week.
