Truman senior Steve Moore, who will play for MU next season, did everything he could against Webster Groves. Moore rebounded. Moore scored. Moore blocked shots into the cheerleaders. Moore avoided fouling out. But it wasn't enough for the Patriots as they lost 64-60 in the boys' Class 5 semifinal.
"Sometimes you give your best, and that's all you can do," Moore said.
Moore finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Moore, who stands 6 feet, 10 inches and wears size-16 shoes, dominated inside the entire game. One possession, Moore missed a shot, went over two Webster Groves defenders, and put the ball back in the basket.
"He just disrupts everything in there," Webster Groves coach Jay Blossom said. "Even when he isn't directly involved in the play he affects the game."
Webster Groves senior Drew Hanlen led all scorers with 25 points while nursing a severe ankle sprain he suffered in practice yesterday. Hanlen has signed with Belmont University.
Moore and Truman play in the third-place game at 9:45 p.m. Saturday against the loser of the second semifinal game. Webster Groves plays in the championship game at 7:45.
