COLUMBIA — A fugitive from Boonville was arrested in San Diego this weekend, according to the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Douglas E. Oerly, 46, was arrested by San Diego police after he was pulled over for a traffic violation, said Brian Hauswirth of the Missouri Department of Corrections. There is no timetable set for Oerly’s extradition back to Missouri.

In 1980, Oerly, then 18, was convicted of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of an elderly woman at the Boonville Kemper Golf Club. He served 15 years of a life sentence before being released on parole in 1995.

A warrant was issued for Oerly’s arrest on Tuesday after he failed to report to his parole officer in Sedalia. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, law enforcement from across the state, and the Missouri Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit had been searching for Oerly since then.
