Five injured Saturday in head-on collision

COLUMBIA — Five people were injured in a head-on collision on Route Y on Saturday afternoon.

Ray Bate, 55, of Ashland, was driving west on Route Y at about 1 p.m. when an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and hit him head-on, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, Rocky T. Wells, 35, of Holts Summit, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report. He was still at the hospital, listed in serious condition, on Monday afternoon.

Bate, and the three passengers in his car, were wearing seat belts. He and Erica Blue, 30, of Hale, suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Boone Hospital Center, where they were treated and released.

Deborah Bate, 54, of Ashland, was seriously injured, according to the crash report. She and Logan Bate, 9, of Ashland, who suffered moderate injuries, were taken to University Hospital. Logan Bate was treated and released. Deborah Bate was in the hospital, listed in fair condition, on Monday afternoon.

Both vehicles were totalled, according to the report.
