Letter: Segert understands School Board issues

March 13, 2008 | 11:03 a.m. CDT

I am writing this letter in support of Ines Segert for the Columbia School Board.

In my opinion Ines Segert is by far the most qualified candidate for the board this year. She has a clear and broad understanding of board issues, and she has stated clearly her goals of pushing for a more open and accountable board, which is something I believe is clearly needed. I am impressed that her statements already match her actions. Since the beginning of her campaign, Ines has been having “office hours” around town to meet and hear the concerns of her future constituents.

I have known Ines Segert for many years, and recently I started discussing the school board situation with her. I was immediately impressed with her broad grasp of board issues. She is concerned about how the high school site was chosen, but she is also knowledgeable about curriculum issues that really need to be addressed.

My vote will go for Ines Segert, who has shown both in her campaign statements and her actions that she will work for a more open and accountable school board that will work to maintain all the great things about our public schools.
