Truck carrying meat turns over

Thursday, March 13, 2008 | 5:55 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — A truck driver was hauling a load of about 42,000 pounds of frozen pork riblets when he took a turn too quickly and flipped the truck onto its side Thursday morning at Highway 63 and Interstate 70, Columbia police said.

Columbia firefighters responded just before 10:00 a.m. and plugged the leak in the diesel fuel tank after 15 gallons of fuel leaked onto the road and ramp. The ramp was closed for six hours. By about 4:15 p.m. the scattered riblets were cleared and workers righted the truck, a 2005 Freightliner licensed to Trans-AM Trucking.

The driver, Royce Whitlow, 27, was not injured.
