PrintCOLUMBIA — Shards of glass lay across the front yard across the street from the home.
Insulation rested in chunks along the street. In the front yard where the home once stood were pieces of mail, including a thank-you note to the family, bank statements and other assorted bills.
In the backyard, an entire side of the house - walls, window panes, insulation and siding - looked as if it had been blown 60 feet behind the home.
A charred white Dodge Neon still sat under the collapsed garage.
Meanwhile, investigators from AmerenUE and other agencies picked about the scene, snapping photos on digital cameras and chatting next to trucks.
In the bed of one AmerenUE truck rested a pipe that carried gas from the main line through a small hose and meter into the home. Some investigators said it looked as if the pipe did not have a leak. Some melted aluminum hung from the pipe - the remnants of the old meter itself.
