COLUMBIA — Boone County will have extra traffic enforcement on the roads Friday to curb violations during the high travel season of spring break, Columbia police said.
Operation Spring “Brake” will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday throughout Boone County, according to a police news release.
Area law enforcement agencies, including the Ashland, Centralia, Columbia and Hallsville police departments, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, will be targeting drivers for hazardous moving, safety restraint and move-over violations, according to the release.
Partial funding for the extra enforcement will come from Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety grants, which will go toward overtime salaries for the additional personnel, according to the release.
Similar special traffic enforcement operations have taken place during other key high travel times in Boone County, including the holiday shopping, May graduation and prom seasons. Columbia police made 267 traffic stops between Nov. 22 and Dec. 25, 2007, at seven selected intersections in a previous operation.
