Sneed family thanks community for support

Thursday, March 20, 2008 | 12:03 p.m. CDT

We are extremely grateful to the people of Columbia for the sympathy and support we have received in the aftermath of the explosion and fire on March 14 at our family home on McNab Drive. The warmth and generosity of this community is helping us tremendously in this difficult time of the loss of our father, and critical injuries to our mother.

We would especially like to recognize the bravery and selflessness of our parents’ neighbor Jack Kennedy, who entered the collapsed and burning building with no thought for his personal safety. Jack sustained burns in a valiant attempt to rescue our father, and we take great solace in Jack’s report of our father’s final moments. We are grateful to all of the police and firefighters who responded, and we are deeply indebted to firefighters Delwyn Duncan and Jeff Kaufmann, who found our mother amidst burning debris and courageously rushed into the flames to save her life.

Finally, we would like to thank our parents’ other neighbors and friends for their support and patience, and we would like to thank the MU Health Care Burn Intensive Care Unit staff and physicians for their excellent and compassionate care of our mother.
