MU baseball team rises to No. 2 ranking

COLUMBIA — For now, the Missouri baseball team will have to settle for second.

On Monday, after a series sweep of Baylor over the weekend at Taylor Stadium, the Tigers ascended to the No. 2 spot in the Baseball America Top 25 poll, the highest ranking the program has enjoyed.

With all three teams ahead of them in the last week’s rankings losing at least once, the Tigers had a chance at the No. 1 spot, but Arizona State’s impressive victories earlier in the week were good enough to keep the Sun Devils at No. 1.

With 13-consecutive victories, the Tigers are off to a school-best 18-2 start to the season and are 3-0 in Big 12 Conference play heading in to a series with the Minnesota Golden Gophers that begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Minneapolis.
