COLUMBIA — Police are looking for an 18-year-old suspected of shooting another teenager at Park Avenue and Fifth Street late Friday night.

Terron A. Taylor is being sought on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action, said police Sgt. Lloyd Simons. Taylor is described as a black man about 5 feet tall and 130 pounds with braided hair.

According to a news release issued by the Police Department, an 18-year-old man was standing in the street talking to two people in a vehicle near Park Avenue and Fifth Street at 11:16 p.m. Friday when the passenger in the vehicle began firing a gun. He fired three to five shots, hitting the victim in the chest once.

The victim drove himself to a hospital for treatment and was in stable condition, according to the release. The suspect and driver fled the scene in the vehicle.

Simons said there was one witness to the crime. He said the relationships among the victim, the shooter and the driver of the vehicle are unknown.

The shooting is being investigated by the department’s Major Crimes Unit.
