Letter: Sturtz can solve First Ward’s problems

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 | 10:59 a.m. CDT

For some time now, the First Ward has had problems such as streets and sidewalks in disrepair, crime, and a lack of affordable housing. Unfortunately, these problems are getting worse, not better. To solve these problems, it will take someone who is creative, understands economic issues, is a good listener and communicator, easily accessible and not influenced by special interests. Paul Sturtz meets all of these qualifications.

A former editor and reporter for the Columbia Daily Tribune and the Missourian, Paul is a good listener and communicator — a quality critically important in representing an area as diverse as the First Ward. Paul plans to have regular meetings with people from his ward so that anyone with a problem can easily contact him.

Paul understands money issues. He helped start COLORS, a nonprofit organization to help small businesses and keep profits invested locally in our community. His creativity and vision in founding the Ragtag Cinemacafe and the True/False Film Festival have brought dollars and international recognition to our community.

Lastly, he has limited his campaign donations to $100 per person so as not to be beholden to special interests.

Vote for Paul Sturtz on April 8.
