COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after leading police on a car chase throughout Columbia.

Elfonta A. Stevens, 32, was arrested for felony resisting arrest, driving under revocation and traffic charges, according to a release from the Columbia Police Department.

The incident started when a Columbia police officer noticed a black two-door vehicle speeding near Lynn Street and McBaine Avenue, the release said. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but Stevens, the driver, would not pull over.

The pursuit started at 3:56 p.m. near Alexander Avenue and Worley Street and continued throughout central Columbia, except when it went onto Stadium Boulevard to I-70 Drive S.E.

Columbia police officers were able to deflate three of the vehicle’s four tires with spike strips and at 4:16 p.m., Stevens pulled the vehicle over on Fourth Avenue near Grand Avenue.

A woman, identified as Lakeisha Gross, was also arrested for obstructing a government operation when she tried to enter the suspect’s vehicle at the end of the pursuit.
