COLUMBIA — A male resident of Reality House was arrested for marijuana possession Monday afternoon, according to a release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
Ritchie Thurston, 51, of Fulton, was arrested at 5:28 p.m. for possession of a controlled substance inside a correctional facility. Reality House staff members found more than 12 grams of marijuana with his possessions, according to the release.
Reality House is a nonprofit agency located at 1900 Prathersville Road. It offers programs to teach adults who are in the criminal justice system to live responsibly in society, according to the agency’s Web site.
“Very seldom do our people get into problems or break the law,” said Joel Putnam, Reality House’s federal program director. “However, many of our people do have substance abuse problems that we offer treatment for.”
Putnam said she could not talk about Thurston’s situation specifically because of HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, which controls if and when information regarding a person’s health information can be released.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Thurston was being held at the Boone County Jail with a $4,500 bond.
