COLUMBIA — Final decisions regarding tuition and fees for the 2009 fiscal year are on the agenda for the UM System Board of Curators meetings on Thursday and Friday.
The meeting, which will be held at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, will continue the Finance and Audit Committee’s discussion regarding the 2009 budget that began at the board’s January-February meeting. Action involving supplemental and student activity fees is also expected.
According to documents posted on the UM System’s Web site, a 4.1 percent tuition hike is recommended both for undergraduate and graduate students next fiscal year. The base tuition for a full-time Missouri undergraduate student would increase from $7,077 to $7,368 per year. Supplemental fees are also expected to increase by 4.1 percent for all MU students.
The increase in tuition for professional schools will be between 0 and 4.1 percent, with an exception granted to MU’s School of Veterinary Medicine, which has requested a 5.1 percent increase, according to the documents.
UM System spokesperson Scott Charton said UM President Gary Forsee will give his first “State of the University” report Friday, and he will also give an update on campus security, according to the agenda.
Forsee and the External Affairs Committee are slated to address the transition in University Communications on Friday after Charton announced his resignation from the department, effective May 1, Charton said.
Charton, who has served as university communications director since September 2005, plans to launch his own company, Charton Communications & Consulting, based in Columbia and Jefferson City.
