Shooting suspect arrested in Kansas City

COLUMBIA — A Columbia man suspected of shooting another man in the chest on March 28 was arrested Thursday by federal authorities at a Kansas City residence.

Police had been looking for Terron Taylor, 18, of 11 E. Ash St., since approximately 11:16 p.m. that Friday when a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest at Park Avenue and Fifth Street, Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said in a news release.

According to the release, the victim was standing in the street talking to two people in a vehicle when the passenger fired three to five shots, striking the victim once in the chest.

Taylor fled the scene in the vehicle before an arrest could be made, the report said.

Nelson said someone called CrimeStoppers and said Taylor could be found in the 7200 block of Bales Street in Kansas City. The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force was notified and arrested Taylor on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

When the police arrived at 2 p.m., the occupants refused to exit. Eventually, three subjects left the residence, but Taylor did not. When Taylor didn’t exit, police entered and found him in the basement, the report said.

Taylor was being held Thursday on a $110,000 bond by the Kansas City Police Department.
