COLUMBIA — A man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of attempted rape of a woman in her home in Prathersville four miles north of Columbia, according to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the press release, a woman in her early 20s called 911 around 9 p.m. Wednesday, saying a man had tried to rape her in her home. Major Tom Reddin with the Sheriff’s Department said the woman knew her attacker, who is her neighbor.
According to the press release, the victim said the man offered her drugs in exchange for sex, and when she refused, he struck her and tried to take off her clothes. She managed to escape and called the police.
Eric Evan Williams, 36, was arrested around 1 a.m. that night at his apartment, where marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found. According to the release, police also found evidence of the attack during the investigation, although Reddin said the investigation is ongoing and would not discuss any details about the evidence or further information.
Williams is in Boone County Jail on charges of attempted forced rape, third degree assault, possession of under 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond for Williams has been set at $26,500.
