COLUMBIA— Federal investigators are seeking information on a bank robbery in Sweet Springs.

FBI officials said that at about 10:22 a.m. Tuesday a man entered the First Community Bank of Sweet Springs, approached the counter and handed the teller a note demanding cash. He indicated he had a gun, though no weapon was visible.

Regional branch manager Dana Cass said that immediately after the robbery, the tellers locked the doors and called the police. Then, following protocol, each wrote a description of the robber.

They described him as being about 6 feet tall and weighing about 225 pounds. He has a non-military buzz cut and a receding hairline with a bald spot on the crown of his head. He also has large zigzag-like tattoos on the right side of his neck that may be lighting bolts.

Sweet Springs Police Chief Richard Downing said the suspect was last seen heading north towards Interstate 70 in a burnt-orange Mercury Sable or Ford Taurus.

Authorities ask that anyone with information call the Jefferson City office of the FBI at 573-636-8814.
