COLUMBIA — An accident south of Columbia on Saturday left three people injured, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the report, a 1996 Toyota Corolla was traveling north on Missouri 163 near Rock Bridge State Park at about 2 p.m. Saturday. The driver tried to turn a corner at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and overturned three and a half times before coming to a stop upside down, according to the report.

The driver, 20-year-old Anthony Gherardini, and one passenger, Laura Gherardini, 15, were taken to University Hospital with moderate injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

A second passenger, Lauren Baker, 14, was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

Status updates for all three were unavailable Sunday afternoon.

A 2005 Subaru was also struck by debris from the accident, according to the report. The debris was from the road and cracked the windshield of the Subaru, said Trooper Gary Gundy. The driver of that vehicle, 70-year-old Evelyn Pruessner of Columbia, reported no injuries.
