COLUMBIA — About 30 people were involved in a disturbance Monday evening that left one man hospitalized, Columbia Police said.

Police found no indication that the incident was connected to gang violence, Columbia Police Sgt. Barbara Buck said.

According to a news release from the Columbia Police Department, the victim was walking on LaSalle Place near Allen Street, in central Columbia near Douglass Park, when he was struck in the back of the head with a bottle.

At this point, Buck said, the man fell to the ground unconscious.

He was transported to University Hospital by ambulance, according to a news release, where he was treated for injuries to his face and head. He was later released, Buck said.

Police are still investigating the incident but have not located anyone who saw the assault, Buck said.
