Tax Day is Tuesday

Monday, April 14, 2008 | 8:00 p.m. CDT

Tuesday, April 15, is the last day to file tax returns. Turn them in at the Columbia Post Office, 511 E. Walnut St. The post office is scheduled to be open late on Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you can pay your taxes but need extra time to fill out the forms, request an Extension of Time to File of up to six months by filling out IRS Form 4868. Form 4868 must still be turned in by April 15.

Form 4868 can be found at irs.gov. Click here for a PDF of the form.

If you can’t pay your taxes today, go to irs.gov to review your options.

AARP Tax assistance will still be available through April 30 for anyone who might qualify for an Economic Stimulus Program payment. Visit the Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway, between 9:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
