COLUMBIA — More than 100 women from across mid-Missouri are expected to attend the annual Progressive Women event “Politics as Art/The Art of Politics” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the recently renovated Mule Barn, located at 505 Fay St.
The event is open to all women. Attendees will be able to network and meet candidates running for office in upcoming elections.
“There is no other forum like this and there is no agenda,” Nancy Harter, co-founder of the organization, said.
Progressive Women, which was formed by Harter and former state representative Vicky Riback Wilson in 2005, holds two events per year to provide women the opportunity to network and talk about business, politics or whatever else they choose. This time the group invited female and male candidates running for national or state legislative seats to talk with attendees but not give formal presentations.
The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring an appetizer or beverage.
“It celebrates women, with no muss no fuss,” Harter said.
