The Columbia College softball team split a doubleheader with Missouri Baptist, winning the first game 13-4 in five innings and losing the second game 6-5. The Cougars (26-8) are first in the American Midwest Conference with a 10-2 record.

Freshman Valerie Teter had three hits, including a home run for three RBIs and scored two runs in the first game for the Cougars. They were also helped by Ashley Farmer, who had two hits for three RBIs and scored once. Katie McMahon (12-4) earned the victory.

The Cougars did not hit the ball as well in the second game. The Spartans (23-11) led 4-1 before the Cougars tied the score in the sixth inning. Then the Spartans scored two more runs to go ahead 6-4. The Cougars scored one more run in the seventh inning.

Lindsey Williams led the Cougars with three hits, including a home run for two RBIs and scored once. Teter (13-4) suffered the loss.

The Cougars play Friday in Oklahoma City in the Oklahoma City University Tournament. They play Peru State University and Southern Nazarene University.

MU TRACK & FIELD:: After the first day of the 81st Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan., sophomore Nick Adcock leads the men’s decathlon with a five-event score of 3,905, which is 70 points ahead of his personal-best pace. Freshman Lars Rise is in second with 3,762 points.

Adcock ran a 10.99 in the 100-meter dash, but the 4.1 meters per second wind put him out of reach of a personal record. He finished second in the event. Adcock also set an outdoor personal best in the shot put with a throw of 43-1.

Kaela Rorvig, who is redshirting this year and competing unattached, finished the day fourth in the women’s heptathlon with 2,992 points. Sophomore Lauren Begany is in eighth with 2,815 points.

Both the decathlon and the heptathlon finish today, and the Kansas Relays continue through Saturday.

ROCK BRIDGE & HICKMAN GOLF: The Bruins finished seventh at the Osage National Golf Classic with a 327 and the Kewpies finished eighth with a 331. Rockhurst won with a 306.

Joe Neal and Dan Kohnle led the Bruins with 81s. Andrew McGinnis shot an 82, and Samuel Thompson and Tyler Cornell each shot 83s.

“It was a nice day, but pretty blustery,” Bruins coach Doug Daniels said. “Wind is one of the great variables of the game.”

The Kewpies’ Nick Wilson shot a 76 and finished sixth. He was followed by Chad Goodson (83), Taylor Cox (84), Mike Wilson (88) and Casey Johnson (95).

Brad Moody of Helias won the tournament with a 1-under-par 71.

MU FOOTBALL: Austin Wuebbells, a Missouri redshirt freshman offensive lineman, has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested over the weekend, according to a football spokesman.

Wuebbells, 19, of Troy, Ill., was arrested Sunday morning after Columbia police officers found drugs in his car during a traffic stop. He was arrested on suspicion of minor in possession, possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was suspended after Tuesday’s afternoon practice, said spokesman Chad Moller.
