MU student killed in car accident

COLUMBIA — A 19-year-old MU freshman died this weekend in a car accident in Illinois.

Evan Dalgaard, who is from the St. Louis area, was killed at 5:29 a.m. on Saturday after losing control of his car on U.S. 45 in Douglas County, Ill., according to the Illinois state police.

While driving northbound, he lost control of his Honda Accord as he went through an S-curve, colliding with a Ford F150 series truck driving the opposite direction, said an officer with the police department. The driver of the truck was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Dalgaard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dalgaard was a political science major at MU. He was also a member of the National Youth Leadership Council.
