Reserve Callaway deputy finds woman’s body

COLUMBIA — A woman’s body was found Sunday afternoon near the Mokane River in Callaway County, according to a news release from the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department.

A reserve deputy found the body while he was looking for mushrooms, according to the news release.

Fingerprints of the body will be sent to the FBI’s National Missing Person database to try to identify the woman. An autopsy was scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, but the results were not available as of 8 p.m.

Access to the Mokane River was shut down on Monday.
