'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' raises men's awareness about sexual violence

Sunday, April 27, 2008 | 10:32 p.m. CDT
Men from MU came together Sunday to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” The event was held by Alpha Phi Omega and the MU Panhellenic Association, which donated all proceeds raised by the walkers to The Shelter.

Throughout the year as part of “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” groups of men wear high heels and take a walk to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence. To participate in the event, men “walk the walk” and hope to “talk the talk” by inspiring conversation about domestic violence.

Sam Hargadine, left, vice president of public relations, and Jesse Feira, vice president of finance and records for MU’s Interfraternity Council, rest after a rainy lap around Stankowski Field in high heels. Because of weather conditions, the men only made one lap around the track, but they were supposed to walk a mile.
