Buscando America celebrates Latin culture

COLUMBIA — Popular Brazilian and Latin dances will be demonstrated by the MU Luso-Brazilian Student Association and the Latin Dance Club at Buscando America, an event celebrating Colombian and Brazilian cultures.

The event, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union at MU, will also feature traditional food from Colombia as well as colorful displays.

The goal of Buscando America is to spread cultural awareness and to promote AIESEC, a national organization that promotes cultural exchange and offers internships in more than 100 countries. Buscando America is named after an internship program within AIESEC that provides students with internships in Brazil and Colombia.

AIESEC hosts many events throughout the year, including panel discussions and film screenings.

“This is a different event from what we have had in the past,” said MU student Yolanda Hutchins, the coordinator of the evening. “This event has those elements that draw people in like food, dancing and interactivity.”

MU sophomore Jessie Bukaty, a member of AIESEC, said she hopes visitors at the event will “learn something and have fun at the same time.”
