COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday night after he led police on a short, low-speed pursuit, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
After the chase, deputies discovered an out-of-state warrant for Joseph A. Burgin, 35, for failing to appear in court for an attempted forgery charge in Johnson County, Kan., according to Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
Burgin was also arrested for failure to register as a sex offender in Boone County, a felony count of resisting arrest, possession of an imitation controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to the news release. He is being held in Boone County Jail with bonds totaling about $13,000.
Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for multiple traffic offenses near Lake of the Woods Road and St. Charles Road east of Columbia at about 8:30 p.m. The driver failed to yield and the pursuit began, according to the news release.
When the vehicle eventually entered the Lakewood Estates Subdivision, the driver left the vehicle and fled on foot, and deputies arrested him after another short pursuit on foot, according to the news release.
