COLUMBIA — A 28-year-old man faces charges of sexually assaulting his six-year-old daughter.

Hallsville police arrested the man Tuesday. He was charged with first-degree statutory sodomy and remained held Thursday at the Boone County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The child told investigators the man had sexually assaulted her while sleeping in bed with her, Hallsville police Officer Caleb Moore said in a probable cause statement.

The Missourian is withholding the name of the suspect to protect the identity of the child.

The child’s grandmother called the police on April 25.

She told investigators that the child reported that her father threatened to beat her if she told anyone what happened, according to the court document.

On Tuesday, a Rainbow House employee interviewed the child. The child stated that her father sexually assaulted her and also pinched and choked her.

Police questioned the man, who said he believes the child’s grandmother and grandfather convinced the child to make the accusations. He said there was nothing he knew of that would make the child say she was abused, according to the court document.
