Suspicious fire causes about $50,000 in damage to duplex

COLUMBIA — A suspicious fire caused an estimated $50,000 damage on Sunday morning to a duplex on Moberly Drive.

No injuries were reported.

Boone County firefighters were called just after 11:20 a.m. to 7308 Moberly Drive, Apartment A.

The Fire Protection District sent seven firetrucks with 15 firefighters, according to a news release. They found smoke in the upstairs living room and the basement. They had the fire under control within 15 minutes, the release said

The firefighters, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are continuing to look into the case. According to the news release, "The fire appears to be suspicious in nature and investigators are currently ruling out all other causes."
