JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri is set to become the seventh state to join an interstate education compact for military children.

The compact oversees members’ education policies for enrollment, graduation and information-sharing. Four states have joined, and three others passed legislation this year to do so. The compact takes effect when 10 states or territories join.

The compact’s decisions would overrule state laws but not constitutional provisions.

Missouri lawmakers also passed bills this year capping tuition for some military personnel and exempting military children from some educational requirements if they completed comparable courses in other states.
