Pedestrian struck twice by cars Monday night

COLUMBIA — Two vehicles hit a pedestrian in Columbia on Monday night, and one of them fled the scene, police said today.

At about 11:30 p.m., Troy Boerner, 25, of Foxfield, Colo., exited a vehicle in which he was a passenger at the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Chapel Hill Road. He was then struck on the arm by a dark colored, four-door sedan, said Sgt. Dan Beckman of the Columbia Police Department. The vehicle fled the scene before police arrived, Beckman said.

Boerner then crawled into the road to be seen by other vehicles, Beckman said. A bystander stopped to assist the pedestrian.

While they remained in the road, a second vehicle entered the intersection and hit Boerner’s lower leg. The second vehicle, driven by Deanna White, 20, of Columbia, remained at the scene, Beckman said. White was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

Boerner was admitted to University Hospital. As of 10 a.m. today, Boerner was listed as being in good condition, according to Barbie Morgan, assistant for public relations at the hospital.

The driver of the first car is described as a white female with blond hair. The general description might make it difficult to find the driver, Beckman said.

“If all we have is a white female and a dark-colored sedan, there’s not much we’ll be able to do,” Beckman said.

If license plate information is available, Beckman said, police will check with the Dept. of Revenue and begin knocking on doors to continue the investigation.
