WASHINGTON — Sen. Claire McCaskill shared some laughs with comedian Stephen Colbert and avoided too many awkward moments during an appearance on his Comedy Central show Wednesday night.
The Missouri Democrat was grilled in Colbert’s mock-conservative style about why, as a woman, she supports Sen. Barack Obama instead of Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential candidate.
She said Obama inspires people and said her kids called her a “big chicken” for waiting until January to endorse him.
Colbert wondered if McCaskill was being stalked by Clinton supporter James Carville or getting beaten up on the Senate floor by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
McCaskill did take a jab at Clinton’s take on the election results, saying “the goal posts keep moving.”
McCaskill presented Colbert with a Missouri flag, which she promised to sign for him.
