COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic charges Sunday after he was involved in an accident on the 4900 block of Clark Lane, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

According to the release, an investigation of the scene at about 6:35 p.m. Sunday showed that Columbia resident Christopher E. Gienger, 32, had been traveling west on Clark Lane when his vehicle swerved into the eastbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Jacqueline Waller, 30, of Auxvasse. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Jacqueline Waller and passenger Benjamin Waller, 32, of Auxvasse, were both transported to the Columbia Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. They were later released. A third passenger, a juvenile, was uninjured.

Gienger sustained minor injuries in the accident and did not require treatment, police said.

Police said they believe Gienger, 31, was under the influence at the time of the accident. A representative from the Boone County Jail said Gienger was released from custody at about 12:45 p.m. Monday after posting a $5,000 bail bond.
