COLUMBIA — Columbia police are looking for a young man suspected in a shooting in the central city Tuesday evening.

At 7:56 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Sanford Avenue after witnesses called police after hearing three gun shots in the area, a news release from the Columbia Police Department said. No one was injured, but there were three bullet holes in the witnesses’ car.

The witnesses said they were talking with some other people when a black man walked up to their vehicle and began to shoot. The witnesses then got in the car and left the area as the suspect ran off, the release said.

Police said the suspect is a young man, likely in his late teens to early20s, with a light complexion, thin build and braided hair.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 875-8477.
