ST. CHARLES — A Catholic priest from St. Charles County is facing charges of second-degree assault and driving while intoxicated following an accident in St. Louis County.

Prosecutors say the Rev. John Brockland ran a red light and hit another car last month, leaving the other driver with a fractured clavicle, ribs and pelvis.

Authorities say Brockland failed a field sobriety test. Brockland was not in custody as of midday Wednesday, and police issued an arrest warrant.

Brockland has been a pastor at Sts.Joachim & Ann parish for nearly a year and has served in the Archdiocese of St. Louis for more than 17 years.

In a statement, the archdiocese says its prayers for a full recovery are with the injured driver and family.
