Bad weather forces Blunt to cancel plans to sign cyberbullying law

O’FALLON — Bad weather forces cancellation of Gov. Matt Blunt’s plan to sign a bill outlawing cyberbullying.

The Republican was scheduled to sign the bill Friday afternoon in St. Charles County. But severe storms hit eastern Missouri, bringing tornado warnings to much of the region. Blunt spokesman Rich Chrismer says the bill signing will be rescheduled, but so far, no date has been set.

The governor had planned to sign the measure just a couple of miles from the neighborhood where 13-year-old Megan Meier hanged herself in 2006 after receiving cruel messages over the Internet.

Earlier Friday, Blunt signed a measure giving millions of dollars of agricultural tax breaks, and another requiring water parks to have liability insurance.
