JEFFERSON CITY — The attorney general’s office says consumers are getting ripped off by a mid-Missouri company claiming to train service dogs for people with diabetes.
The lawsuit against Heaven Scent Paws, of St. Elizabeth, seeks an injunction forcing compliance with consumer protection laws, plus restitution payments and civil penalties.
Representatives from Heaven Scent Paws did not immediately return messages Tuesday.
Attorney General Jay Nixon says the company offers a three-week training program in Cole County for diabetics to obtain service dogs that will alert them about low or high blood sugar.
But Nixon says some dogs are unable to actually do that and lack the temperament to be service dogs. He also says customers were given unfair contracts.
