Obama defends economic policy

ST. LOUIS — Sen. Barack Obama says Republicans are misrepresenting his economic policies.

The presumptive Democratic nominee for president used a campaign stop in Missouri to lash out at comments from the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, and McCain’s supporters in Missouri.

McCain says Obama plans to raise taxes and that would hurt the economy. Republican Gov. Matt Blunt echoed that thought Monday during a conference call with reporters.

Obama said his plan would actually cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers. But it would increase taxes on corporations and the wealthy. Obama says this would stimulate the economy by putting money in the pockets of more consumers.
