Douglass’ Boone signs to play Moberly basketball

COLUMBIA — Douglass High School’s Landon Boone will play basketball at Moberly Area Community College after signing a letter of intent on Wednesday. Boone, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound guard and four-year starter, averaged 17.2 points a game and recorded the second-most points in Douglass history with more than 1,200 career points. Boone, who was named All-District the past two years, helped lead the Bulldogs to 13-7 last season.

Had Boone not been offered a scholarship to play for Moberly, he might have ended up at State Fair Community College, which was his second choice. When the time came to make a decision, Boone decided to accept the scholarship and stay where his home and family will be near him for support.

“We’ve been all over and Moberly has been gracious enough to give him the opportunity to play ball,” Kevin Bryant, his father, said.

Boone said he hopes to increase in strength and skill at Moberly, while learning to adapt to the speed of the next level. Faced with a new group of players, coaches and opponents, Boone is going to try and keep his basic fundamentals.

“I’m going to play good, hard ball, be a leader and help my teammates get better,” Boone said. “Keep doing what I’ve been doing.”
