COLUMBIA — Jermaine M. Burnett, 17, of Columbia was arrested on suspicion of owning a defaced handgun Friday. No one was injured in the incident, which began with a reported disturbance in the 1000 block of North Eighth Street.

The suspect had allegedly threatened someone with a handgun and was still on the scene when police arrived, a news release from the Columbia Police Department said. No arrests were made in regard to the disturbance.

According to the release, a search of the suspect’s residence yielded a 9 mm handgun and several boxes of ammunition in the suspect’s bedroom. Closer examination of the handgun revealed that the serial numbers had been defaced and were not legible.
