ST. LOUIS — The Humane Society of Missouri has 10 people with boats and trailers rescuing pets abandoned in the Iowa floods.

The Humane Society says it dispatched three teams trained in water rescues to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the request of the Iowa Department of Agriculture.

Iowa agriculture officials anticipate more than 300 animals will need shelter.

The Humane Society’s Tim Rickey, who directs rescues, says the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Humane Societies are under water.
