SPRINGFIELD — Firefighters in Springfield had to rescue dozens of stranded motorists as torrential rain flooded parks and streets throughout the city.
The National Weather Service reported that almost 4 inches of rain fell on the city Friday.
Several creeks throughout the city swelled, causing flooding. Emergency responders rescued people in stalled cars and deterred others from crossing submerged roadways.
When the rain stopped at about 3 p.m. Friday, flooding had spread to neighborhoods across the city.
City spokeswoman Louise Whall said about three dozen water rescues had to be performed.
She said no serious injuries were reported.
