Woman stabbed in north Columbia during domestic assault

COLUMBIA — A woman received multiple stab wounds early Tuesday morning in a domestic assault in north Columbia, police said. Claudell Hayden, 47, of Columbia was arrested and charged with first degree domestic assault and armed criminal action at about 12:55 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Columbia Police Department, police arrived at 2909 Lawnridge Court after receiving a report that two people were involved in a physical disturbance. Hayden approached the officers when they arrived. The bleeding victim followed Hayden out of the house toward the officers but collapsed. The woman, who had multiple stab wounds, indicated to police that she had been assaulted by Hayden, the release stated.

As of 11:40 a.m., Hayden was being held at Boone County Jail with no bail set.

The victim was taken to University Hospital and admitted into surgery. Her condition is not known.
